Canada Child Benefit 2026

The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly payment for eligible families responsible for children under 18.

Beginning with the July 2026 benefit year, eligible families can receive up to C$8,157 per year for each child under 6 and up to C$6,883 per year for each child aged 6 to 17.

The CRA recalculates payments every July using tax information from the previous year.

The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) provides tax-free quarterly payments to eligible individuals and families with low or modest incomes.

The benefit replaced the GST/HST credit beginning in July 2026. The government increased the benefit amount by 25%, with that increase scheduled to remain for five years.

When Canadians file their taxes, they are automatically considered for the benefit if they meet the applicable conditions.

Can you qualify for more than one Canadian benefit?

Potentially, yes.

Each program has separate eligibility rules. A household may independently meet the requirements for more than one benefit.

For example, an eligible working family with children and modest income could potentially qualify for the Canada Child Benefit, Canada Workers Benefit and Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit.

Receiving one program does not automatically guarantee eligibility for another.

Why filing your tax return matters

Several Canadian benefits use tax-return information to determine eligibility and payment amounts.

This means filing a tax return can be important even for people who had little or no taxable income.

For couples, information from both spouses or common-law partners can be relevant to family-income calculations.

Important:

The Government of Canada provides official calculators, account services and benefit-finder tools. Use official government websites when you need to apply, change personal information or confirm your individual entitlement.
